Wickham Community Association was first formed as a charity on 6th October 1984. The purpose, at that time, was to improve the amenities for the people of Wickham and surrounding areas, by building a new Community Centre on land donated by farmer Ralph Houghton.

With the sale of the old village hall – The Victory Hall in Bridge Street - and a lot of fundraising, the new Centre was built and opened to the public to view the premises on 29th December 1988.

In 2002 the Trustees decided that, in order to be more effective, it should convert to a Company Limited by Guarantee. This means the Trustees’ liability in the event of failure of the company is limited to £1. The structure of the Association was also refined so that the number of Trustees was reduced from about 45 to 12 or so.
